The Arabic language

Arabic is one of the world's major languages, estimated to be the mother tongue of more than 200 million people. Despite being a common language of over 20 countries, it differs from one to another by a unique colloquial dialect that reflects the regional and socio-economic differences in those countries. The written form is what is known by the modern standard Arabic, which is the nearest to a universal form of Arabic in use today. It is used as the language of nearly all publications of news media, business and government.

 

 

What makes a good translator?

A writer has the heavy burden of conveying his ideas in writing but the translator faces an even greater challenge; conveying someone else's ideas in the words of a different culture and communicating the interchange of cultures between the two languages. The best translation comes from a combination of a deep understanding of the cultures involved, a structured background in linguistics and translation and the talent of naturally being better than others. Technical translations certainly require a particularly skilful translator not only with excellent linguistic abilities but also specific knowledge and experience in the field of expertise.

Biography

With a diverse professional background starting in 1990 with a career in advertising and publication in a well established Lebanese Newspaper, to a job in finance and banking at the Commonwealth Bank of Australia, and as a contarctor bookkeeper and personal accounts assistant handling accounts of various types of businesses, as well an extensive 11 years period working as a controller in the Lebanese Customs service, the horizons of knowledge and expertise were further widened for me. My love to cultures and languages, with fluency in Arabic, English and French, set the way for me to a career in Translations by getting NAATI Accreditation at the Professional level as a translator from English into Arabic, and yet the horizon is still not wide enough for my ambistions!
